Traditionally, musicians have always played at Jewish wedding ceremonies, setting the initial mood for everyone at the beginning, and playing lively circle dance music at the end of this memorable event. There are several well defined parts of the ceremony in which different kinds of traditional music play an important role.
The ceremony starts with the gathering of the guests. They are greeted with the traditional tunes that Klezmer musicians used to play in times gone by, which are varied in tempo and mood, creating the right atmosphere for the event.
Now, everyone is waiting for the most important people to arrive. The groom is first. He stands under the Chuppah and waits for his bride. Her entry is announced by the sound of “Eshet Chayil” (A Woman of Worth) and continues until she has circled her groom.
At the end of the Chuppah, when the groom breaks the glass, we burst in energetically with “Siman Tov” and “Mazal Tov”, encouraging everyone to dance for a little while right after the ceremony. The music continues until the bride and groom have left the room.
